Multiple periodic structure consisting of organic materials have been fabricated from tris (8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum (Alq
3
) and 2-(4-biphenylyl)-5-(4-tertbutyl-phenyl)-1
3
3-oxadiazole (PBD) by a high-vacuum multisource-type organic molecular deposition system. From small-angle X-ray diffraction patterns of Alq
3
/PBD multilayer structure
a periodically layered structure is confirmed through the entire stack. From photoluminescence measurements
it is found that exciton energy transfer from PBD to Alq
3
layer increased with decreasing of PBD layer thickness. Blue shifting and narrowing of the emission spectrum have also been observed for the electroluminescent devices with the organic multiple perodic structure at room temperature.
