Vertically aligned ZnO nanorods were prepared on sapphire substrates
via
a hydrothermal approach.The morphological
structural and optical properties were investigated by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) spectra. These nanorods on substrates showed a good photocatalytic activity toward the methyl violet in the air atmosphere. The presence of oxygen and water vapor was essential for the photocatalytic oxidation. These nanorods could serve as the effective
convenient and recyclable photocatalysts in the air
which made them a promising photocatalyst candidate for the solid-contaminant treatments.
