Combustion Preparation and Near-infrared Phosphors of Gd2O3:Bi3+,Nd3+
phosphors were prepared by combustion method using glycine as a fuel. The structure of the phosphor was characterized by X-ray diffraction and TEM. The influences of Bi
3+
/Nd
3+
concentration on the spectrum shape
fluorescence intensity and fluorescence lifetimes were investigated. The results show that there is an efficient energy transfer from Bi
3+
to Nd
3+
ions in Gd
2
O
3
:Bi
3+
Nd
3+
. With optimized Bi
3+
mole fraction of 6% and Nd
3+
mole fraction of 2%
the monoclinic Gd
2
O
3
:Bi
3+
Nd
3+
phosphor has the strongest near-infrared luminescence intensity
which is about 20 times stronger than the sample without Bi
3+
doping.
