nanocrystals with different sizes in the ranges of 4 nm to 11 nm were prepared by hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements were used to characte-rize the sample. XRD showed that the samples structure kept pure rutile phase of SnO

. The excitation spectrum of the sample prepared without sintering only consisted of the intra shell f-f transitions of Eu

ions. The excitation spectra of the samples sintered at different temperature contained the intra shell f-f transitions of Eu
3+
ions and the O

charge transfer band. The emission intensities of the samples were closely related to the sizes of nanocrystals.
