599 and 597 nm) and <sup>4</sup>G<sub>5/2</sub>→<sup>6</sup>H<sub>9/2</sub>(651
647 and 644 nm) typical transitions of Sm<sup>3+</sup>. The excitation spectra show that these phosphors can be effectively excited by 374 and 405 nm. Therefore
the two kinds of phosphors are promising red phosphors for white LEDs. Effects of activation and charge compensation on the luminescence intensities of Li<em>M(M</em>=Ca
Sm) phosphors are promising red phosphors for white LEDs.
