Luminescence properties of the salicylic-RE complex have been studied. The results for salicylic-RE complex doped with Tb
3+
or Tb
3+
/Gd
3+
ions show that they are high efficiency luminescent materials. The energy transfer between salicylic radical and Tb
3+
ions were observed through the measurement of excitation spectrum and emission spectrum as well as fluorescence decay time and it was quite efficient from salicylic radical to Tb
3+
or Tb
3+
/Gd
3+
. The substitution of 4/5 mol Tb
3+
for Gd
3+
ions was obtained with satisfatory results.The following formula can be used to estimate the energy transmission efficiency between salicylic radical and Tb
